Curryplant - Plant

6510- Curryplant. Helichrysum italicum

Perennial (hardy in zones 8-9)

Delightful curry-scented foliage creates a welcome introduction to this trouble-free shrub. Appropriate for xeriscaping, curryplant grows best in full sun and sandy or loamy soil in a well-drained location. When it rains curryplant releases a pleasing light curry scent. Deer avoid this plant, and it is generally untroubled by other pests or diseases. Its narrow silvery-grey leaves make a striking visual statement in the herb garden. It does not impart as much flavour to food as its scent would imply, but a few sprigs can be stuffed into the cavity of a roasting chicken for a change of pace from tarragon or parsley, or added to vegetables or rice; remove before serving. The essential oil is used to enhance fruit flavours in confections and perfumes.

Safe Seed Pledge

Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative. We pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms, poses great biological risks as well as economic, political and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds.
