Green Windsor Broad Beans

3720 - Green Windsor. Classic English variety.5-6" pods each contain 3-5 large, 1", fresh green shell beans. Favas prefer cool, mild conditions and are suitable for spring and fall sowings. Avoid hot weather. Dry beans are light brown. Sow 5 -7.5cm (2-3")deep in double rows 90cm (3ft)between each pair.Seed should be spaced 23cm (9")apart within the row and the rows should be 23cm (9")apart. Broad Beans are not fussy as to soil conditions but will reward good preparation. The main pest is Black Fly which can be avoided by early sowing,followed by pinching out the tops when four trusses have set. Try growing Summer Savory with your beans. Keep weeds out of establishing crop to lessen the effects of Pea and Bean Weevil.
