4840 - Luffa (Luffa aegyptiaca) Burpee's 1888 catalogue said, A natural dishcloth, and a most admirable one. Many ladies prefer this dishcloth. The fruit grow about 2', and the vine is very ornamental, producing clusters of yellow blossoms, in pleasing contrast with the silvery-shaded, dark green foliage. Grow these squash for its fibrous flesh and when dried, you'll have the best bath sponges ever! Harvest at 2" long for delectable baby vegetables or up to 7" long for drying into sponges. Needs at least 90 days to harvest for sponges. Start seeds indoors. Vines spread 12'.
