Spectrums Surpriz tomato
1963 - Spectrums Surpriz tomato. 70-80 Days. Indeterminate midseason deep pink to nearly red and olive-green striped fruits. The fruits usually have streaks or splotches of light antho on the shoulders or other parts of the fruit that were in direct sun. Interior color when fully ripe is also deep pink, nearly red. There may be some green in the flesh just under the skin. The fruit are good at the ""pink ripe"" stage when they are pinkish inside and out, and soft as if ripe. But they are better when they have deepened to a near-red color. Fruits average 4-6 ounces. Fruit shape varies, with each plant producing mostly oblate to beefsteak-shape fruits, but each plant also makes some nearly round fruit. Blossom end scars are usually zippers, but shallow catfacing may occur. Good to very good production and average disease resistance. Good vigor; tall plants. Flavor is a true tomato flavor with both sweet and tangy notes, but it leans a little toward sweet. This is a purple-fleshed medium beefsteak with green stripes and a dusting of anthocyanin on top (when exposed to the sun). Flavor is a true tomato flavor with both sweet and tangy notes, but it leans a little toward sweet.
